I about to clean my tank and was going to rearrange a few things since my bichir just died (got out somehow), and theres no need for his safe cave anymore. Ive got a 120g freshwater tank, with a few large rock and driftwood, but wanted to add a few more rocks. I used to have a couple reef tanks and have some big base rocks sitting around (out for about 2 years), which used to be live rock at one time. Its not fugi rock or anything, more greyish in color, so it would look natural in my freshwater tank. If I rinsed these off fairly well, do you think I could use these in my freshwater tank, without effecting the PH to dramatically?

If you're concerned about salt changing pH - don't be, salt does not change pH. But, I have no idea about other issues that rock might cause.

Looking at them again, I don't think I bought these ones as live rock. I think the ones I'm looking at were just added to my reef, mainly under and behind the live rock. They were in saltwater, but I through them in a bucket of water to let them soak for now, do you think these rocks would be fine after being rinsed out good? Or since they were in the tank with the live rock, maybe not a good idea?

Personally, I wouldn't take the chance of them harming my fish.

I actually use dead rock in some of my tanks, it raises PH/hardness, no harm done. If they were out two years, anything that was live on it would be dead now.

Thats kind've what I was thinking, and its not figi rock or anything, I don't even know if they came straight from the ocean. It pretty much looks like your average grey, pourus rock. Ive only got one fish (Gar) left right now, but bought a Datnoid thats still at the fish store till I decide what to do about my gar. I think I'll try it and kepp an I on the water quality.
