Hey folks!

I've been lurking for quite a while and finally got a decent sized tank that I plan to setup as a reef system. I need to figure out if it is tempered or not. It is a 110 Extra high that is several years old. I assume it is either an All-Glass or Perfecto but I don't know if there is a way to tell the difference. There is no markings on the tank I can find though the strip light is Perfecto. The glass is 1/2" thick on all sides, I am not sure of the bottom (I probably would drill the sides anyway). There is no support brace across the top. The dimensions are 48 x 18 x 30 3/4.

Thanks!!
Chris

First: congrats on the tank.

Second: you may want to post this in the Marine section, not the freshwater section.

Third: why does it matter?

it matters because he wants to drill holes for the plumbing.
All Glass brand aquariums can only be drilled through the bottom.

actually most allglass (sounds like you may have a 110 X) are tempered on the bottom..meaning..don't even think about drilling the bottom..
they can be drilled on the sides..with special drill bit.
btw, it's the tempering that makes the bottom strong(support weight)

I would not drill the bottom. If any piece is tempered, it would be the bottom.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to tell if the sides are safe.

bash from the front with a sledge. if it doesnt break, its tempered :D
