Used canister filters?

Some of the new ones that I see on there are not auctions, they're buy it now - but still much cheaper than other online sources (petsmart.com, liveaquaria.com, etc). Of course their shipping may actually make the difference - I didnt' really check those in depth for the shipping charges to see if that was crazy. Are there other online resources that sell cheaper than the more well-knowns? Ebay just makes me a little nervous in general...

I've bought all my used canister from ebay. You just have to read the listing and buy from good buyers. I've bought 2 h.o.t.s, magnum 350, fluval 204,204,304, 2 eheims 2215s. They all have been as advertised except the eheims, but I got them both for 50shipped can't expect much. Alot of sellers will lay out all the items and take good quality pictures, thats the ones I try to stick with. The 304 I bought was like new with box and media, i think it was 30ish shipped. The 204s and hots were under 25shipped. There are deals out there if you want to look. gl with it all, that being said can't go wrong with new.

I think that's a good deal, brand new and comes with media and installation kits???
In the store these are going for 299.00!!!
I got a used 2026 three years ago on ebay for 150. Used Eheims will usually get more than other used canisters because they are known to run trouble free for decades.

Although I just got a used 2217 right here for 50 bucks!

Groovy. I get paid tomorrow. Gotta pay the bills first and then see what is left over for the filter. Hopefully enough for this one. If not, the 2217 is what I'll be hunting for since it's a bit cheaper.

Ok so I'm curious - why is the Eheim 2217 so much cheaper than the Eheim Pro II 2026? The 2217 says it's rated for 160 gallon tanks, and the 2026 is only rated for 90 gallon tanks. Is it just a convenience thing? The baskets and the button on top? Or is there something more to it that I am missing? Is the Pro II really that much better that it's worth paying an extra $100+ for it?

That's the difference it's the prime button and the baskets! Oh and there is NO bypass on the 2217 on the 2026 there is some bypass not much but some.

They are both extremely quiet and efficient filters, you can't go wrong with either.

I just got a used Pro II 2026 for $51 on e-bay. It's missing the intake strainer, spray bar, and needs media. Still, not a bad deal.

If the Eheim was kept up never ran dry you are probably getting a fairly good deal. Eheim is the Rolls Royce of filters
