Used filter

We bought a used 10 G with an old Tetra Whisper power filter last week. We're setting it up this weekend and, of course, the filter doesn't work.

The impeller is spinning and it's making a noise like it's hitting something, like 'thhhhhppppppppppbbbbbbbbbbbb' and then, periodically, it makes the louder 'mmreah' sound. No water coming through at all. Any ideas on how to salvage it?

The prong type things on the impellor have snapped, by a new impellor or if its hard to get hold of it just have o get a new filter :(

Hmm. Did you try filling the filter up with water to prime it? Sometimes with power filters you have to fill 'em up with water before they'll start pumping water. If that doesn't work, you probably need a new impeller like MajorFish suggested.

Now onto more important things, like deciding what goes in there.... ;)
