used tank help

ok well i just tested the pH and it is now at a reading of it looks between 7.0 -7.2? and i guess thats not a bad ph level right? also the KH is at 60-80 ppm,
so today i will at least pick up the ammonia and nitrite and nitrate? hopfully i can get an all in one box, and i also will not settle for the stripes because i cannot get an acurate reading off of them.

also my LFS is only 4 blocks from my house and have been going their since i was about 4, they are a family ownd store that keeps things very nice and sell quality fish, every tank is mantained very well and the information they give out is always helpfull.

If your going to buy a testing kit I would just go with the aquarium pharmaceuticals master test kit because what your going to spend on a single one you can add a couple more dollars & get the master test kit. Is there a petsmart close by? Because they have the test kit for $13.49, but you will have to go to petsmart.com, printout the page with the test kit & take it to the store & they will price match it for you .

WOW, so i just got back fromt he local petco because i knew that i could find a better deal on that kit, and well you are my life saver, they wanted 32 dollors for the SAME EXACT kit, i refused to pay for it, had to deal with my 10 year old cousin buying fish from that store(chain store fish are never well kept) and on top of it some fish in the tank had ICK/ICH and also a fish in her tank has it so i just know i will be hearing about a dead fish in the next week or two.

I cant thank you guys enough for all the help allready, i have becom a regular member on the forums and hope to be chating with more of you guys soon

update to make matters worse,
well i lost the bigest guy in the tank, the green terror.
im very disipointed because it is my fault that he had to go through that much stress and lose his life so early:(, petsmart here i come for that darn test kit.

UPDATE- got that test kit today, water mesaures at

amonnia 0-1ppm
nitrate-0-5ppm so were in between
nitrite-0 ppm
pH seems to be at 7.0-7.2? is that ok for south american convict chiclids?
GH between 60-90
and KH between 60-90
i have also got the final peice to my cascade 200 filter, so i now have the BIO sponge half and the Carbon half, hope this will help with the cloudy watter i beleave to be a bacteria bloom as it is clearing up some what over the past few days, and with only one fish loss so far :(
