Has anyone ever tried diffusing their co2 in a canister filter? If so, and successfully, how did you do it?

Or if anyone has a suggestion on the best method of diffusing the co2, please post it on here. I'm trying to get the most out of my co2 and have been brainstorming up a way to get the airline tubing into my rena x3 somehow.

Thanks!
Fernando

I use the in-tank reactor, it seems to work ok but you need a powerhead to run it. I want to replace it with a in-line reactor, you don't need a powerhead to run it, it goes on the output line on your canister filter, it is less clutter in the tank as well. I'm not too sure how good the canister would be as a reactor, a reactor breaks down the C02 into minute bubbles and that is getting the most out of your C02.

good luck.

Try the 'Rex Reactor', here is a link to Rex Grigg's website

I can't see how the C02 is being broken down in his reactor, it basically looks like the C02 is being fed or T'd into a filter hose and the C02 is being pushed out as fast as it is being pushed in. IMO it isn't good use of C02, rather it being wasted. However, if there were bio balls of some sort jammed in the tube to break up the C02, then I can see it working better. This is giving me ideas, thanks jhj.

I just set up a new XP3, and there is a capped port on the back of the filter that I'm thinking is for your CO2 tubing. I may be wrong, and I was going to post here and see what others thought. Check yours...at the side of the top piede in the back. there is not one on my XP2, so may be a new addition.

when you hook up your canister, you had to prime the air out of it right. Having said that I can't see how injecting air(C02 gases) into the canister would be a good thing because we all heard how a impeller rattles when there is air still in the canister. I personally don't know the design of the xp3 but if that is the concept I would shy away from using the port for C02. What does your manual say it is for?

Good luck.

Terry.

Hmm, I am not seing any 'port' on my xp3. The only thing on the back is were the plug comes out - rest is flat smooth plastic. I myself have been using a glass diffuser from petsolution.com but you need to clean it out regularly to keep the bubles really fine. I am looking to build or buy a better 'reactor' though.
