Hagen:PHOS-X

Will this product help keep the away the green algae growing on my 10 gallon shrimp tank?

I also have the green algae on the glass of my 5.5. I have no algae in my 29 gallon but I do dose all 3 tanks with flourish. Would it effect it in anyway of knocking down algae as well as everyday use?

"It absorbs and traps phosphate, nitrite, and nitrate with its matrix.

Phos-X Phosphate Remover** makes maintenance easy. It provides crystal clear water, a reduction of odors and creates ideal conditions for fish and plant life.

Phos-X Phosphate Remover** can be places in any filter. It is ideally placed in the last stage of filtration after all the other filter media"

My last question is about where to place it, I have a top fin 30 hang on the side filter, do I place the product in the filter bag or just behind the filter bag itself?

I don't think you'll find anyone with alot of planted tank experience using it. It will remove phosphate to the point where your plants will struggle and the algae will take over. If you have green spot algae on the glass this is many times a sign of a phospate deficiency.

If you have a real problem, (planted tanks will always have some algae), identify the deficient nutrient, and supplement it. Excess nutrients can be best dealt with by larger water changes and controlling excess supplementation (usually due to overfeeding). My experience really is that algae problems are always more closely connected to deficiencies then overabundance.

I think the main cause is to much light, thus the algae is growing. I can scrub it with a sponge, but was just wondering if phos-x can be used without having a need to take out nitrates, etc.
