I second that. I used to live in a house that used well water and I never added dechlor for the simple reason that there is no chlorine in well water. Chlorine is added to city water supplies to kill bacteria and other nasties.
ditto. I have a well, don't add dechlor, no problems. my fish always seem happy when i add new water, playing in the bubbles and everything so I don't use dechlor. If I had a municipal water supply though, I'd consider it a must.
The reason I say that is the majority of people often have treated, city water. It would have been beneficial to explain that well water was the reason of not using dechlor....especially since we don't want people getting the wrong impression that dechlor is an optional, superfluous thing. There may be lots of newbie eyes reading everything we type all the time....gotta be careful!
Yes, at my old house in the boonies, our water was directly sourced form an underground spring...so there would have been no need to use it.
Thanks Leopardess for clearing that up.... I am on a MUD so I definitely use dechlor... You can smell the chlorine!
When i put it in i just squirt a bit in and all are fine! It's more than i need.
i will probably start measuring more carefully after reading this.....
So adding tapwater to the tank, and treating it as it goes in is ok? I also find that I need to lower th PH of my tapwater. It it ok to add the PH down to the tank as I fill same as the declor? Should I shut down the filter while I do the filling so it dosn't suck up untreated water and kill the bactiria in there?
I've been using buckets to fill simply because I can premix the water in measured amounts, but it sux to carry a big bucket o agua around.
what is your ph out of the tap? What do you want it? and what tpe of fish are you keeping? You don't want to mess with your ph as long as its stable it will be ok.
Im not sure you understand what a pyhton is cloud. Its a long tube that you use when changing water. It dosent control the temp., Just try to get the water temperature as close as possible before hooking up the python and using it. http://www.pythonproducts.com/nospill.htm Theres a picture of a python, so maybe you will understand what it looks like.
