UV Sterilizer question

I keep the one on the pond on 24/7 during the summer, otherwise it gets green water. On a fishtank, I'd probably just use it when it was really needed. If nothing else, you'll save yourself a few cents a month not running a lightbulb for no reason.

I believe you leave it on 24/7. I have a uv sterilizer but have yet to use it.

No no no no, thats total overkill. a couple hours every few days is PLENTY.

But then again, it depends on your situation.

FYI, those bulbs die out fast. I wouldnt leave it on more than 6 hours a day.

try different times.
you will need to see how efficiently the UV is working in your set up.

going to be trial and error for a bit.

hang in there.

Thanks for the great help so far guys! Do you recomend 6 hours daily or weekly?

In my opinion, 6 hours every 3-5 days will be more than enough.,

I started running my UV Sterlizer when I ended up with ICK.
I have run it ever since that was a year ago.
Zero impact on the cycle (baterica).
Does not remove tanins - I have driftwood too.

I run 2 filters, 2 heaters, and my UV constantly.
Since the ICK problem - I have not had any issues at all with that tank.
