A 12-15w UV will work for that, but you need to make sure your hitting the proper flow rate. 490 gph will probably bee too fast, but check out the manufacturer's ratings. They will also have recommendations for wattage. All you have to do is follow their ratings.

Will you use it on freshwater??? I guess that would be good on afreshwater thats really big cause it just kills anything in the water the flows through it.

UV's are a worthwhile investment when you starting getting into expensive fish. They are used mostly in saltwater because, well, most of the fish in salt water are expensive.

UVs are also nice on planted aquariums because they kill green water.

Would it be smart to do that with like my future 100gal mbaunua tank to keep them safe. They look pretty expensive. Would it be good to have that and a nice canister filter?

It's really a personal decision. A good UV filter can be anywhere from $50(used) to $200(new). If you're buying $20+ fish regularly and/or have a tank constantly battling bacteria and green water outbreaks, it may be worth it to you.

If you can get a good deal on a UV, I recommend it. I'm glad I have them.

I have a UV sterilizer in my 55g Angelfish tank (FW) and the water is always pristine clear. I bought a submersible canister filter one and it is a 9w.
