i have a 10g handy, so when i do full water changes i just get a toy sandsifter and pour my gravel on that when i dump the water. it's easy on the fish too b/c when i toss 'em into the 10g, i can keep them in a significant amount of the same water they were already in. my fish are alive and well w/ no help of a vacuum.

How big is the tank that you are cleaning? That sounds like more work than just using a gravel vac. And wouldn't a 100% water change be too stressful on the fish, not to mention moving them from tank to tank? I find a 25-50% water change (1x per week) using a gravel vac is quick & easy and the fish do really well with it.

there is a devise that will change your hobby experience. Its called Kleen sweep and its a waterless vacume that allows you to clean between plants and clean up the left over food.

all you need is a normal air pump and a free line. i used 8 feet of regular air tubing and now when i need to water change i dont have to worry about missing something.

I will walk by my aquarium and say hey there is something i missed. turn on the air and finish cleaning.

It will not kill your nulifing bacteria (ok i cant spell)

Yeah bad idea to move your fish with every cleaning
