OK, I've heard different feedback about if you do or don't have to vacuum your substrate or not. What do you guys do? I'll have about 2 or 3 inches of Aragamax Special Grade (a fairly small grain) in there along with some Aragalive that is pretty much the same size grain. Do I need to vacuum or are the organisms sufficient to keep it clean? Also, do I need to turn it myself or do the organisms do that enough? If I do need to, how often? Thanks!
The organisms, if you have enough of them, will keep it clean and turned. I very seldom see any kind of waste on the sand in my tanks. Every now and then the rocks need to be lightly cleaned, as a fine dusty waste accumulates, but the sand I leave alone.
