Vacuuming

That would help a lot Sammie. I guess I have to suck over all the plants because it is basically filled with plants.

I vac at each water change. Some fry tanks get it at every feeding to remove leftovers.

I vac every water change. Mines a planted tank and I often find a kind of plant gunk that builds up over the course of the week between water changes. Seems to be made up of dead leaves and such.

Also, on most gravels u can't really notice that much, but fish crap...alot.

I'm interested in getting the vac to start without me sucking on the other end...I can't do it :( and it smells worse with each water change lol.

Starting the flow is very easy once you know how. Yes, sucking on the end of the tube is nasty and opens you up to the possibility of catching fish TB. No matter how rare it may be, you have to think that there is always that chance. Do you know specifically that you are immune and it won't happen to you? Guess what, it has to happen to somebody, so don't leave yourself open to that chance. :) I guess I'll post the pictures on the thread later in the week then.

What is fish TB?

Daniel

I just pump the vac in and out of the water untill it starts flowing by its self. I would never put my mouth on anything near the fish tank. :sim:

Yeah, but that pumping thing doesn't always work but it does help slosh water all over the place.:) :dance2:

Fish Tb can sometimes be transmitted to humans though the chance is very very low. I believe there is suppose to be a strain that humans can contract. Either way do you really want to be sucking on fishy poop water? :duh: Here is a website that is suppose to explain it: http://www.4qd.org/Aqua/disease/tb.html

does vacuuming stress the fish?? especially the bottom dwellers? I have an oil catfish who likes to hide in little holes that I make him and he gets scared when anythings being done in the tank

If you put the vac tube in the water and turn it up so the air bubbles come out before you start pumping it up and down you can get the suction started a lot faster. I would not put my mouth on it. lol
