hi all,
im new to all this.. please :help: me out,
i recently purchased a valentini puffer, (16.7.08)
and the day after putting him in my tank i realised he had tiny white spots, i was thinking white spot disease...
yesterday (17.7.08) i took a pic into my LFS and the guy said nah thats nothing to worry about,
so i watched carefully for the rest of the day and fed him garlic pellets and brine shrimp just in case
and by this morning the spots had doubled
i tested my water params - nitrate-0, nitrite-0, ammonia-0, pH-8.3.
i have been trying to find a sure way to treat him ASAP
every site i go to has a different view on treatment
i know copper based meds is out of the question
im going to give him a 3 min FW dip, (is this safe???)
i have a QT tank which i have dosed with melafix,
im just waiting on ppls advice i dont want to kill him..
he doesnt seem too worried, not really scratching
but i want to treat him as soon as
i cant begin to imagine how he's feeling

please please help :)

is it invert safe?
i have a CBS, 2 hermits, small purple starfish and a cowrie snail.
do they sell it anywhere in australia?
should i still give him a FW bath and use melafix too?

I wouldn't give him fresh water bath because i don't believe it works but stresses fish out more. Sano is reef safe but i don't know about clams, everything else does just fine with it. however, melafix got nothing to do with ich. i don't know if the company would ship to where you are, you need to contact them. also, you want to put a rush on that and i don't know how fast you can get Sano. i recomend to check out another post about puffer having ich too and maybe look into hiposalinity. hope it will work. it should. continue feeding him well, add garlic into his food to keep his amune system up.

Hyposalinity is the safest treatment for ich, especially with puffers.

That being said, I used Kordons... or Gordons... (can't remember the name) Organic Ick medicine. Not really sure if it worked but none of my fish including my valentini show signs of ick.
