Vallisneria ? The One Plant Wonder.

My PH is 7.8, not sure of the hardness. Vals do great for me. If you can grow plants then I'm sure you can grow Vals until they are coming out of your ears.

My ph is 8

And one of the vals is reaching for the surface.

Vals are actually one of the plants known for taking carbonate and using it more readily as a carbon source...generally a high pH means a high KH as well. I've always kept them in 8.0-8.2ish and never had issues.

Cory,
Thanks for leading us to the written report. I copied and stored it in my computer. Always had problems growing Vals, but hopefulle I can do better from now on.

OMG DO WANT!

This would look great in my driftwood/fancy gold fish tank... sounds like it would grow fast enough to put up with being nipped at by the goldies.

In response to the WPG rule I mentioned briefly. It was a general guideline. Now I'm willing to bet that most people who know the difference in T5, T5 HO, PC, CFL, florescent, led lighting etc also can grow Val.

I'll go out on another limb, and the majority of people who didn't know about val. Probably don't know that much about lighting. So if I was to add 3-4 paragraphs about lighting it with different lights, people would assume it's not for them.

The reality is, any of those light fixtures at 1 watt per gallon with the correct spectrum as a guideline should grow val for them. The fixture isn't even relevant. To be truly accurate I would site a PAR reading at the base of the plant. The only problem is most other people don't have access to a par meter.

In my experience teaching in the aquatic world is best done as general as possible.

To everyone else, get some Val and add some green to your life
