Value of a used system

I have an opportunity to buy a 100 gallon acrylic tank with metal halide lights, a wet dry filter and a protien skimmer. It's a complete set-up with matching stand and hood. I am struggling with what a set-up like this is worth. The aquairum does have some scratches on the inside.

The price we have discussed is $650, and the seller will deliver to my house. Any opinions on if that price is fair or silly high for a used system?

Thanks!

you might want to post same question in saltwater... SW folks may be more familiar w/ acrylic tanks and the filtration/skimmers included.

Yeah, but the $1/gallon rule only really works up to about 55G, then they get exponentially more expensive. They cost more to make (thicker glass, etc.) and thus to buy new, and they're harder to find.

I would say $650 is a little more than I'd pay for a 100G fully set up, but it's not a bad price, especially considered it's delivered. If you think it's worth it, I'd say go for it.

If I were buying it I'd look at $500-$550 if I had to move it, but that's just me.

650 for all that stuff seems fair to me, moreover he is delivering it. I would jump on that like a trampoline man. I have to collect aquariums like this for my bussiness (i do contract tanks as a part time job) so this is a DEAL. DELIVERY IS NICE!!!!!

I think it's a good deal. A 100G with MHs (I just paid over $800 for my MHs alone on my new tank) and a wet/dry (not cheap) for $650 delivered? Plus...acrylic tanks cost a little more than glass. However, I'm also used to paying the 8.5% tax... This deal seems GREAT to me compared to ones around here.

There are a couple of things I'd check- first of all, have you seen it in person yet? I would check to see how many scratches the acrylic has on it (which you can buff out). I would definitely find out how old the bulbs are in the MHs. What brand is the skimmer? To me, some just work better than others. Also, does it include a stand/hood?

I think that sounds reasonable, if the scratches aren't too bad. You can always buff out the scratches if they are not too deep. The delivery is a BIG plus. Maybe offer $600 even and see if he bites.

$1 a gal around here works for me in big tanks also.

100 gal... $80
85 gal.... $50
100 gal ... $100

all these tanks came with stands.

I saw an ad for a 30 gallon tank with a stand for $150. Both were bought about 4 years ago. I was told the stand was bought for $275 (seems high to me).

Gravel, heater, pump, and a few fish are included (nothing fancy).

Does this seem to be a fair price, or too much?
