I have two tanks that i have been trying to set up and stock.
15g - 24"W x 12.5"L x 12.25"H, surface area is 300
it has plants in it, aquaclear 30
18g Hex - surface area is 210
6 white cloud minnows
3 platys (2 females and 1 male)
4 leopard corys
-and 3 plants, fluva 3 ??

after taking advice from others, i will be returning the leopards and platys tommorrow, i guess the tank was overstocked (very confused on stocking rules and limits, newbie brain and all)

Any ideas as to stocking for these tanks????
I would very much apprecate it, CHantell

I'm confused. How many fish are in the 15g? You could certainly spread those fish between the two tanks without being overstocked. Put the white clouds in the hex, and the rest should be fine in the 15g.

Well there are no fish in the 15g right now. When i asked if the platys and the leopards would be better in the 15g being that it has more surface space, i was told it would be better to return the leopards because they need bigger tanks. I am returning the platys because i have been moving them from tank to tank, and yet have found a good stocking plan with them. Not sure if that all made sense????

Hmmm, in a regular 15 gallon those 4 leopard cories would be just fine. I'm not sure why someone would tell you otherwise. The 15 is preferable to the 18 hex because there is more bottom space for them. With the cories in the 15 you have quite a few options for mid and top swimming tankmates - what fish do you like?

It's not a bad idea to return the platies unless you want a whole bunch of baby platies to be worrying about in the next months.

The corys will do just fine in the 15g.

in fact, when and if you move them to the 15g, you could actually stand to get 2-3 more to give them a proper school.

I disagree on adding more leopard cories - these fish get to 3 inches full grown and 3 or 4 of them in a 15 gallon is the maximum.

Perhaps with a smaller species like panda cories you'd be okay with a school of 6 in that tank, but not for these larger guys. They will do fine as a group of 4. ;)

oh... sorry, I was a little confused on the size of these cories. you're right. 4 si enough.

Thanks for the advice, i like the cories. So i will put them in the 15g and return the platies.
So that leaves me with....
15g
4 leopard cories

18g
6 white cloud minnows

In my 10g, i have
5 neon tetras, had one die on me last week
1 dwarf gourami
3 ghost shrimp

I am pretty open to sugestions. I like gourami's, my older son likes ram, hubby like lobsters (I think it the newfie in him ;) ), and youngest son wants a "cool" fish (He is 3, and trying to convince him nemo won't work in these tank is impossible!!)
Thanks again, Chantell
