Very new guy with new tank!

Well unfortuately that is a typical LFS price. A little higher than my LFS, but not much. My LFS sells the 3 for $49.99 and 4 for $54.99.

I have learned over the years, buy frozen food, large heavy items like bucket of salt/sand and livestock from LFS.. buy all your equipment, media, and filters online.

I do have to say I know nothing about this so I'm just going on how big they look. I will take your word for it.

I'm learning that but I really really hate to wait 5 days to get something I payed for up front. It's just me. :O)

Ya, I was like you when I first changed out my old powerheads to Koralias.. that is why I have a 2 in my tank when I should have a 3. I went by the rating, not by what everyone was saying about "go 1 bigger". I talked my neighbor out of the 2 (he thought the same as you, 600GPH x2 should be fine) but it isn't. It is not a jet like a powerhead or pump, the flow is much more dispersed so it doesn't reach as far. I actually bought him the 3 and it still wouldn't reach end to end so he bought a 4 also and ooops.. too much. Blows sand everywhere with the other things in his tank. He has to change out his penductors now because he bought them to increase flow when he only had a Mag7.. now he has an 18 and doesnt need the extra push anymore.

So that means I should get the 3's? Is that correct?

Well I hope that the Mag 9 is good enough for now cause I don't think my sump could handle an 18. That just seems nuts to me. Going by what the nine pumps threw there now.

Ya, just my opinion seeing how the 3's work in a 75G. 2 3's should be perfect. I think the 4 is to much from what I have seen, and to big, like a black osterich egg in the tank.

I know one person in my reef club that has a Mag18 AND a Mag24 on seperate returns into his 75G tank. Now I think THAT is nuts! Throw a SQWD onto your 9 and it starts to knock it down a few notches. Ya, a 9 straight out it a lot, but split it and take 10% away for the SQWD to work.

OK I have to ask what is SQWD?

Oops! Have been typing it wrong all this time! SCWD.. lol.

The SCWD (pronounced "squid") is a revolutionary device designed to provide alternating currents without the use of electricty. The SCWD mounts inline with 3/4" tubing, the two ports alternate the output, the bottom port is the input. A great alternative to expensive electronic ball valves. The SCWD will run on any pump with a minimum output of 50 GPH and a maximum output of 1400. The switching speed and current duration is dependent on the volume of water flowing through the SCWD. You can control the duration by controlling the flow going through the SCWD. Can be submersed for use with large power heads or used externally.

SCWD is regarded by industry experts as the most energy efficient wave-making product on the market. It replicates nature by generating alternating currents within a tank or pond. These currents stimulate coral, fish, and plant growth and keep other aquatic life healthy because of the tank or pond? increased water currents and oxygenation.
