Very Sick baby Oscar

Thanks Ian
I have since been doing some reading about them & have a bit more understanding (not eough to get another one just yet) he never once attempted to eat another fish or harm in any way, he never had the red strips he was ment to they where more grey to purple, the only red was the ring around the black spot on his tail. does colour matter or is that just cosmetic???
We only bought him & the fighter from the fish guy cause he said they where all fine toghether & they where in very small dirty looking tanks (the small fighter tanks you see in the aquariums) felt sorry for them & thought we where giving them a beter home - obviously we thought wrong & didnt help the little guy in the end.
his tank was cleaned & vacuumed every week his water was kept between 26 & 28 degrees, was my temp wrong maybe?
Well anyway will keep researching & see where we go from there

The colour isn't an issue, they are totally variable in colour, same are 99% black, others have more red, orange or white, even up to full albino.

But a young Oscar should be an eating machine. Like earthworms as long as itself. Messy, but that thats the feeding they should be getting.

If you have a 6ft tank, and are happy to keep 2 or 3 big fish in it, then no reason you cant have an Oscar. My little guy is in a 4ft tank now, but I have a 6ft tank to move him and his Sailfin Pleco "Friend" into.

Good Luck

Ian

Oscar and Pleco having a discussion over who gets the floating pellets.

Ahhhh, sorry to hear about your lil guy! Oscars are great fish and fun to have. I can't believe some of the things LFS will say can work together....just keep in mind when talking with them they are in the business to sell fish, sometimes selling is more important to them then actual good advice.

Keep reading up and get a new start, we all started somewhere and I know my first experience was TERRIBLE

Good luck!!!

If I were you, I'd stop taking advise from the lfs, and preferrably stop using that lfs altogether if possible, because either they have no idea what they're talking about, or they are just lying to get you to buy more fish from them (not good either way).
