VERY unhappy betta!!!

keep the good works :) send us a pic if u can ...

I'll get a pic tonight after work. I tried to get pics last night but the dar plastic is REALLY refective and you could see my counter top. haha. (He's in the kitchen at the moment for ease of water changes.)

He's going to eat some yummy peas tonight! Just had my b/f pick some up so we can get his belly cleared out. :)

btw, make sure the peas are defrosted frozen peas, not canned. (you probly know that since you keep chiclids though).

Also, I would feed him a pea meal at least once a week. Mine usually has a couple days of normal meals, a day of fasting, and then a meal of pea(s), repeat.

And the melafix may also melt his fins. So, another reason not to use it.

Good Luck, I bet he's happy to be there.

Thanks! (Love the Avatar BTW! My coworker needs to see that lol.)

And yea- oh so much fun to peel the little baby peas lol!!! I feed my cichlids a frozen cube that contains carrots, peas and spinach. I feed my Betta a little of it once a week, so I'll be giving this guy some as well- just out of routine.

I think he'll heal up just fine without meds- with frequent WCs- the water conditioner- non DISTILLED water- and a good diet. :)

I'll try to post pics here everyother day or so, so that we can all see him get better. Thanks for everyone who chipped in and cares about the poor guy! You're moral support makes him feel extra special!!! :) :) :) :)

(also lets me know I'm doing the right thing with him)

I made the mistake of using distilled water a long time ago, it's true that you can't use it because it lacks essential minerals.
Getting a heater to maintain constant 78-80 is really important.
I would go with dissolved aquarium salt instead of any meds and it would probably help with the constipation as well.
But, I would not tell him that the betta died because what if he just gets another then. Better off telling him that the fish can't thrive in that setup and needs some TLC at your home, and that you know he was trying to take good care of it but it just wasn't going well.

Here are the promised pics... very poor quality... sorry!

He actually looks a bit brighter today. I've had him for exactly 24 hours now. 24 hours is how long his tank has been clean w/ conditioner. Fed him peas earlier. They sank beween the big rocks so I'm not sure if he can get them even if he does want them. :(

Looking from above... The top half of his body about his "arm fins" is this wide |-----| (literally) and below his "arm fins" his body is this wide |-|

Doesnt seem right- my betta isnt shaped like that.

You need to blanch the peas, deshell them, and feed a very tiny piece to him. Just give him about the size of a pin-head.
I had a betta that would not eat ANYthing but live mosquito larvae, and he snapped up the pea faster than I could blink.

Just checked again and a lot of the pea goodness is mising! BWAHAHAH! He ate it yay! Nowpoo mr.ish! Poo! and become un-constipated! LOL.

he s a veil tail , veil tails heal faster in my experience , he seems abit old but IMO the fins problem is not cuz of his age ,he will be fine in clean water and good diet ,
