i was going to say, if the sock drippings worked, why not stick your feet in for a nightly soak for more bacteria:) then your fish died...i am sorry:(

do you think it was the foot drippings and not a dirty tank?

I see that the "gravel" in the old glass jar looks alot like Flourite. It has an earthy smell to it. Kinda like potting soil.

Had to go to drsfostersmith.com to find a closeup of Flourite. I thought that since Flourite was a "clay" it would turn to mush in the tank. Like maybe cat litter would.

This past weekend I purchased two Igloo Coolers from the dollar store for $10 apiece. They are the legend series. The Igloo website shows them as out of stock but retail for $18 apiece.

When I get the "big" tank for local coldwater species. I'll use one as a DIY wet-dry filter and the other as a livewell for transporting specimens and feeder minnows.
