Very worried about African Dwarf Frog

Blood worms are only good as an occasional treat for them. They don't contain enough protein for them. Things that are good for them are frog pelleted diets, and small pieces of previously frozen fish (make sure you feed fish without Thiaminase most of the time), and insects. If the pellets you're feeding are hard or contain wheat, make sure to soak them in warm water first to soften them up and expand them so they don't expand in the frog's stomachs and so that they're easier for them to eat.

I feed my frogs by holding their food in front of their faces. You can also use a turkey baster to do this. At least until you notice them finding food on their own. Or, if your guppies steal all their food, then you'll have to hand feed them no matter what to make sure that they're getting enough. Their eyesight isn't great so that's why you put the food in their face.

I know that you're not complaining about chytrid but if I were you, I would treat for it anyways, just to be safe. Here are two treatments but you may have to join the forum to view them: http://flippersnfins.yuku.com/topic/8544

And here is treatment for red leg, which it sounds like you're experiencing: http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/oLAmTF...fybH7-McOpo4/Treatment for Red Leg in ACF.txt

And here's some great info if you bought your frogs from the store that you did: http://flippersnfins.yuku.com/topic/9924

Anna, I wouldn't stress too much about it. My froggie didn't eat at first either. He often looks dead because he sleeps most of the time, and in the strangest places!

btw, I highly recommend one of these Seachem ammonia alerts which monitor the ammonia constantly and last for a year or more. They sell for about $5 or $6.

I was wondering if you could get one of those ammonia alert thingies at a walmart or pets unlimited as they are the only pet stores in my area and I'd REALLY like to get one?

Also very worried about African Dwarf Frogs

I got 2ADF's last weekend, couple days ago found one under the wood cave dead. Go another one yesterday and the 2 were doing great fun to watch. They both were swimming all over up and down playing etc..all of a sudden today another died and now the other looks to be close to death just barely moving. Help....

Please describe the appearance of the frogs... any odd look to the skin, or red tinge to the legs?

You might want to start a new thread in this forum so others will see that this is a new post by another frog owner.

In the thread, please answer all the questions asked in the following link:

This will help us be better able to help you with this. Frogs can have a variety of problems, some may be due to water quality issues... some may be illness. I hope we can help.

If you can get photos and upload some for us that would help.

In the meantime, make sure the water is very clean. Make sure the parameters are good: ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, and nitrate around 20ppm or so.

Temp should be stable at around 78-80 degrees.

A good dechlorinater and conditioner such as Prime by Seachem is really helpful.

A good liquid test kit is needed to test your parameters; strips are very unreliable and most often give false readings.

There are some serious illnesses that can occur in amphibians. I hope your little guy will be OK. Post as soon as possible with the answers and photos, please.

ADDENDUM: Be very careful with any water you remove from the tank, until we know what this is. I would place any water you've removed from the tank into a bucket and treat with bleach to disinfect. This could possibly be a fungus called Chytridiomycosis that is attacking amphians worldwide; pouring the water onto the ground or into the sewer system could endanger more frogs. This may not be the problem, but just to be safe I would exercise care.

never put fish (or frogs) in an uncycled tank. THEY WILL most likely die, as the bacteria isn't large enough to suppourt them yet. Your frogs will chill at the bottom of the tankor at the top like they might be dead. Just chill out and give it a day or two and you'll know if they have passed
