I went on vacation for 8 days and when I came back, I saw what looked like eggs with little tiny black dots on them. Then today I saw a few wrigglers so I think I have apisto babies! They are in a cichlid stone so it's hard to get good pictures but I did take a short video. I've never had any baby fish ever. Not even guppies. So I"m very new to this.

A few questions: what should I do now? How do I make sure the babies get food? What do I do with them? I have an empty 10 gallon tank and a 2.5 gallon betta tank. I feed the adult apistos frozen food. Thank you very much!

Awesome! Must good water quality cuz apistos are pretty touchy at times! With apistos if there is no predators, I would just leave them in the tank with the parents. They usually take pretty good care of guarding them.. However, you will have to provide infusia, brine shrimp or some other type of mico species of food! Nice job and good luck!

Thanks! I'm very excited about them, but also a bit nervous about them. There are a few cory habrosus in the tank, but they seem to keep to themselves. I also just had to pick off a snail that was in the entrance of the cichlid stone. The female apisto was picking at it and the snail aparently was going no where. Luckily, it was still at entrance of the stone where I could pick it off with a toothpick.

nice what species do you have???

infusoria is the easiest to come by but sometimes risky to make. like using a cut potato cube in a jar of tank water and leave it in a sunny window. i have heard but never actually tried it cattapa leaves if you put them in the tank near the cave when they get old enuff to feed they can get infusoria from the cattapa leaves breaking down. i always wanted to try it out but alas my apistos could not make my hectic move from one house to another.

Thanks biggdadyapisto! They are double reds. Apistogramma Cacatuodies. I'll try and post pics of the male and females, but I have another update!

The other female apparently had some fry too because I just noticed 2 small swimming little guys around this little cluster substrate near the entrance to cave she inhabits. I had to use my magnifying glass but they are definitely fish! I only seen two of them. Hopes the others didn't get eaten!

Anyway, about the indian almond leaves, i actually do have those leaves in there! I wanted to bring my pH down and bought some leaves from this frog guy here in Michigan (joshsfrogs.com). They were placed in there over 2 weeks ago, so hopefully they'll provide food for the little guys!

it's a 20 gallon high with eco complete, and may plants. I've been using my flashlight on them quite a bit. if you think I should quit peeking so much, I will. I don't want them to suffer any stress because of my curiosity.

well i dont think its bad to peek just not too much watch mama if she starts to look any bit stressed i would stop for a lil bit. is it a trio in the 20? id keep an eye out for the two mamas sabotaging each others brood ive only heard of it happening not witnessed it. id love to see some pics.

I do have a trio of 2 females and one male. There are also corydora habrosus in the tank as you'll see in the video below. I'll upload pics as soon as I can, but in meantime, another update! I could not locate the other females free swimming fry. I first saw two, and then just one, then I can't locate any. Here is another video I took today. If you have any suggestions as to how I take care of these guys (transfer them to another tank, take the predator fish out, take the male out, etc) I'd appreciate it.
