I guess i dont understand why i would want to switch to a stripped down software product to view my forums when i could be using a web browser which allows me to multi-task while reading.

I just wish Dale or Michael would implement a RSS feed for each forum. It would make it so much easier to read the latest posts when you dont have that much time.

You just "read" while multitasking? No music?

What is RSS feed? .. thanks.. I need to learn - everday...!

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Think of it as a distributable "What's New" for your site. Originated by UserLand in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.

So, I'm wondering how a "stand-alone", separate program, could be as quick on updates and refreshes, as the original website 'forums'..

This varies alot on your memory and processor, and you probally will say you dont care or it doesnt matter to you, but in HTML code when you nest mutiple table elements you will have a dramatic increase on processor load and the amount of time to display the page. By not parsing the HTML code to output all the tables, colors, graphics you can speed things up. And as far as refreshing/updates go, multiple web requests can be sent out through the program to update selected threads at a specified rate. The trickest thing to all this is i dont want to increase the bandwith to the forums so im being very careful on how to approach updates/refreshes.

Like i've stated from the very beginning, i know this program would not be for everyone, but its just a project ive started for myself. If i didnt know how to program i wouldnt consider an external program at all. But i wanted to challenge myself on this project and hopefully find a few people that would actually enjoy using it if it was done up well enough.

I want people to keep in mind, this is not a marketing scheme to make money, this program is freeware. Im waiting for my project to be approved on sourceforge.net as we speak. I really think this program has the potential to be a very useful tool, not only for the end user, but also the administrator and moderators.

I have to say that if this will be freeware then congrats and good luck cuz it is rather hard to find a freeware program that is worth of money. :bowing: :bowing: :bowing:

Without having access to forum database or RSS it's a pita to do what you're wanting. The only way I can think off hand is to create a webrequest object to stream down the url source code, parse through it, sort it out neat and tidy.

Exactly, but the thing is im breaking it down into seperate classes for different forums(phpBB,UBB,vBulletion,etc..) then going to try be able to have them load as addons files you can download and make.

What are you making it in Visual Basic? C++? IF you get stuck, but idoubt you will, i could try to help, sounds good.
