On the top of my vinegar eel culture, there's a white film. Is this a by-product of the eels or is this more likely wax from unscrubbed apple peels? Or mold? If it's mold, what, if anything, am I supposed to do about it?

I just shake it up to break the film loose. I think it's just a collection of gunk like what happens when you leave a tank without aeration for several days, either way it's normal.
K. Good to know I'm not messing things up. I did stir it around but it settles back into place. I hope it doesn't suffocate the eels or anything.
I have 3 jars, about a gallon each, that I didn't touch for almost a year and there were millions of them.
I have several bottles of vinegar eels so if anyone needs a starter culture I can send one for $6 shipped 
I send a large culture since I'm not cranking them out en masse. I'm also not competing with someone over 2 or 3 dollars lol, was just offering.
