OK, so this is really a houseplant but it IS growing out of my HOB filter!

I was given a bunch of this three weeks ago by a fellow aquarist as "some type of philodendron". I'm thinking it's more likely a pothos or similar.

Glossy leaves? maybe...that's relative
folded along midrib...new leaves are somewhat folded
variegation...tossup
leaf tips...look more like pothos
new growth mostly same color as old
petioles partially grooved
No leaf sheaths


According to that guide...more pothos than philodendron.

Yeah, not sure those IDs are all that definitive. To me it just has a more pothos look...but that's just my best guess.

My roommate has a philodendron and the leaves are more consistently heart shaped, more so than the plant you have. At first I was like "never seen a pothos like that" and then I found out it wasn't a pothos...

i'm going to say pothos as well. the philodendron i've seen with similar variegation patterns has much thinner leafs. to the point they have somewhat of a transparent quality.

I would say Pothos. These are really good to have in HOB filters as they act as good nitrite filters.
