Vintage metal aquariums info needed

Hi, I'm new to post but I am currently working on a 16g MetaFrame project. The frame is in AMAZING condition but the glass, though intact, had scratches, so if I am going to the trouble to replace the silicone, I'm replacing that glass. I chose Starphire glass for the front and side viewing panels. I also went with a glass bottom on top of the slate bottom since silicone doesn't bond with slate (for very long anyway). We are at the stage of siliconing all the new panels of glass (all remnants of tar and silicone have been removed). I'm currently waiting on the delivery of black silicone (I thought it would make the tank look more authentic to the original tar-sealed version). I'll post pictures as soon as the new glass is in place.

Silicone will bond with slate just fine...I've resealed a few metal-framed tanks with slate bottoms, both have been going well for several years now.

Wow, thanks everywhere else I have read says silicon doesn't stick to slate. I will have to try it. Do you a specific brand??

I use GE Silicone I for windows and doors. Used it on a number of tanks with good success.

well i now Metaframe are the one that angled at the botom (i have 4 of them currently) not sure what size thay go up to but the largest i've seen was a 90 gallon i think. not sure if allglass ever made metal rimed tanks hell i don't even know if thay where around back then.

btw metal rimed tanks rock

do you think all metaframes were marked, I picked up a 5 gallon yesterday with tapered legs and a light strip, it wasn't marked but I think it is MetaFrame. It leaks and I tried heating it, in the oven, it didn't work, the tar on the side got soft but the tar on the bottom was too far gone for it to work

I have a 29g, 40 breeder, 15g (tall and narrow, weird shape) and a small dip and pour (maybe 1g?) all made by metaframe.

i remember those tanks MSJ that 15g would make a nice reef tank pobably (when you get it fixed) and i am jealous of the 40 breeder.

Senhorn it's quite possible that thay are Metaframes but it could also be a smaller company who built tanks back then too. you got pictures of it?

here are the pics, the first one is what i suspect is a metaframe although unmarked and the second is with my 10 gallon non metaframe
