My hubby has been to both the Shedd and the Georgia Aquarium....liked the Shedd okay enough, but really enjoyed the Georgia. We also went to the Vancouver Aquarium here in Canada and had a great time. The employees there were very friendly, even looking at pics of our tanks and fish!
I'll admit that the GA aquarium is by far my favorite. I've been to a few through the years - Mystic Aquarium in CT, and a few others, but by far the best I've seen is the GA aquarium.
Actually I'll be going there again in October, which I'm really looking forward to, especially since they've added some things (a Manta Ray!) since the last time I was there.
Agree w/Jlink17 - Newport Aq. in KY was a good visit; pay extra for the behind the scenes too! it's worth it - i was the ONLY one to show up - so i got personal tour! Clearwater Aq is small, but expanding and has a dolphin named Winter that they have been rehabilitating since she lost her tail to a lobster trap. Would still like to see the Shedd sometime, not to mention GA.
I think as aquaria enthusists we are kinda underimpressed at public aquariums by nature because probably 2/3rds of the fish in the exhibits we either own or know someone that does. I have to disagree somewhat with the orginal poster. I went to Shedd's not too long ago, and while the admission price was high, I still enjoyed my visit. There were more than 20 cardinals in the Amazon exhibit. More like 200 cardinals. You musta missed the discus that were in there aswell. They were about the size of dinner plates (maybe bigger). I saw the biggest cana snail ever there. The thing was bigger than a softball. I did enjoy the new saltwater and coral exhibits.
