Wal-Mart aquarium stand: good or bad?

I'd much rather have a nice piece of wood furniture, those $200 stands you see at pet stores. However, if it wasn't a main show tank I can't think of another stand I'd rather have than the Walmart ones.. and don't think they look bad, theyr'e good looking stands when they're set up.

I agree. I paid $160 for a stand for my 29g tank from a pet store. It looks great in my living room. I thought for a secondary stand I might go with something cheaper and since the WM stands are about $100 cheaper I could afford to buy two at that price.

Thanks for all the input from all those who have responded.

I trust the walmart stands more than I do the typical tacked together hardwood ones from the LFS. They have no lateral support and that scares me.

I have a Wal-mart stand for my 55. It's not a bad piece of equipment. My only gripe is that I wish it was taller. It's only about 23 inches high. So, basically, when you're sitting down the tank looks great. And, when you're 6'3" you just can't get a good look at a tank that low while standing. Oh well. When I get more established I'll make my own stand. For now, though, the Wal-mart one is doing an excellent job.

The diy cyinder block, 2x4, plywood stand i have is great it holds my 38gal and 10gal sump sits uner it. Not only is it strong it is very movable. If you don't like the industrial look of the blocks, it can be easily wrapped with some wood paneling.
