Walmart fish

It's good to hear that there is a Walmart out there with well-kept tanks, but I still would be wary. I haven't checked out the nearest Walmart to see if they even have a fish dept, but I don't have my hopes up for anything good. The Petco near me is terrible, though. I saw a tank with Flame Gouramis and Silver Dollars. The fins on every single Silver Dollar were torn to shreds and they looked extremely stressed. On top of all that there was a dead Gourami floating at the top of the tank. Just disgusting. I completely agree that fish care in stores should be held to the same standards as for kittens and puppies.

My walmart is very mediocre but today when I went in I saw that they had rope fish and bichirs. I had to get a ropefish, they also had berried ghost shrimp, so I got one to try my luck with. They are of course in different tanks:)

If this rope fish does ok I am going to get another one and a bichir:)

fish are not held to the same standards as kittens and puppies, i've gotten several fish from my local wally world my green sevs pimedulla cats and my plecos all good, wifes tetra tank all came frome walmart they were all good cept for the bga fiasco i cant blame that on them just depends on the store

The Walmart near me usually does a decent job. Tanks are clean, rarely a dead fish, and a decent variety of stock, including the angels mentioned earlier. The only problem is when you go at night. Apparently they don't have people in the pet section for 3rd shift and some guy whose stocking shelves in lawn and garden comes to manhandle your fish. I had a guy drop a fish on the floor, take a couple of minutes to get it up, and then just drop it in the bag to sell me. It was inexpensive so I went ahead and took it, and it actually survived. If you go during the day though, they usually do a pretty good job.

our walmart here is horrable about keeping fish....they are all eating the other dead fish and the filters sucked full of other dead fish ...makes me mad to see it...it really should be addressed to someone ...it makes me mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure if you take it up with one of the managers they would have something done about it. The managers at the walmart I stop by occasionally think that they are the kings of the world haha.

Thats great your walmart people have a brain! Ours here unfortunatly don't. They had 5 or 6 fish as big as my hand in one small tank the size of a 10 gallon it seems. Also all their bettas were dead and growing mold or something. It was NASTY. I filed a report with the manager and it did nothing about the big fish but the bettas were gone and a fresh supply were there to be tortured!
I am glad to hear your walmart has respect for living things and has respect for what people think of it's store!

Please, folks, let's not turn this into another fish store bashing thread. If you have something good to say, then state it. Other wise just let it pass on by.

Thanks.

I'm really glad to see this was not a complaining thread. It really is based on the individual store. I have been told many times that fish at walmart or where ever are horrid and don't buy there. But around here the fish are well kept, even at walmart. The only downside is you can never find anyone to help you get one :)
