Walmart for fish?

Oh and for the record I was told repeatedly that the WalSmart fish return policy "here" is 48 hours. Its been 1 year and I still have my Gobi Dragon. The key is to find out any LFS fish delivery day so you can scope them out and get them the next day while they are still at their best.

Since doing this I notice they always look better when they are new then when they have been kept by the LFS in those tiny crowded tanks for more then 2 weeks.

walmart uses uv sterilizers bu tstill qt everything. My local store just had a bunch of common bn plecos that i bought 3 of. They are all fine now a month later. Just look for healthy ones. and figure out what day they get them in. buy stuff before they sit to long

Walmart's fish policy is not 90 days. It's 72 hours. 90 days for regular merchandise except electronics and other assorted items.

lol i actually have opened up the cabinet to look at the sump. it was ok but you could tell it doesnt get serviced very often.

funny, i did the same thing. the one i saw looked a little used for not having any fish in it... :crazy:

well thanks for clearing that up.. i thought 90 days was a little long for a fish policy lol that just kinda says "dont buy your fish here because they will die, but you can come back whenever you want and get more".

My local Walmart has all of their tanks empty except for a few comet goldfishes. I'd hesitate to buy those fishes even to use as feeders (not that I'd ever use any fish as live foods).

Luckily there's a Petsmart down the street that I get all my aquarium-related supplies from.

Like others already said, it's totally subjective. I've seen some Walmarts with pretty good fish and care, but I've also seen some pretty horrid ones. That said, I bought some of my fish from there, and even the neon tetras were very nice and healthy.

I had them for about a year until I decided they were eating too many of my shrimp but didn't want to move them to the other tank because the angel would eat them. Sold to the LFS since I've heard that Walmart will just flush any fish returned to them, alive or dead. I don't know if it's true, but I didn't want to take a chance.

I'm leery of buying from Walmart since I don't like their general policies and lack of care for the fish they carry, but even local small LFSs can be really bad too. Depending on the store, it may just be the best place in town. As long as the fish seem healthy, the tanks seem well maintained, and you don't plan on returning living fish to WM, I guess I would buy.

A 90 day return policy? I may visit WM!

When my WM had fish it was only a three day return policy. I have not checked the policy at other stores. I may have to look into that.
