If you don't like the store, don't shop there for anything. They are immune to protest.

It's strange- I never see anything at Walmart that's at such a great price.

exactly. its usually only a few cents cheaper, except on big items, where it might be a few dollars cheaper, but IMO, its definately not worth selling my soul or my country to china and india.

one time there was an algae eater on the floor of the walmart i went to. he was dried and shriveled and no one tried to pick him up

ulch! Thoses stories are pretty greusome -- I don't have a Walmart in my area but the PetCo is pretty bad with their fish. Some of the people who work there are great and very knowledgable but I'm always seeing dead or dying or diseased fish in their tanks. I have bought fish from them but you just have to be very careful -- I always wait at least four days after delivery to buy anything from them. The only other LFS by me is Petland and they are far worse then PetCo - All their fancy goldfish have huge ulcerations on their bodies! Horrible. And these places are supposed to specifically cater to selling live fish and other animals!!! I mean not having grown up with Walmarts and Kmarts and other huge "marts" around me I'm not so familiar with what they stock but I would never in my mind associate those places with live animals. Pet supplies are one thing - but pets themselves! No Way!!

If you all feel so strongly against the treatment of the fish at WalMart, then do the hobby a huge favor and STOP BUYING! Yes you want to "save" the poor diseased fishies, but you're only compounded the problem and making room for them to ship in more debilitated fish.

I have to disagree about pricing. Around here, no one can beat WalStarMartOfDeath prices. Once the "Super" store opens it's going to close down the independent grocery chains in the area. It's like a fungus, walmart. I refuse to buy certain products there, fish livestock obviously and music/movies - due to the whole censorship mayhem.

If your WalStarMart is crap, don't supply them with any more of your hard earned money. Simple as that.

yeah walmart isgood for everything but fish

its ok.... I walked in there the other day and this little guy came up to me and asked if he could help me.. I replied not at the moment then I began to mess with him. I explained I was interested in the oscars, and he flat out tells me they can live in a 5g desktop aquarium. Thats all it took.. I told him that I own a few cichlids, and that no way could you ever use a 5g to hold that fish or most fish happily anyways. I feel sorry for most bettas honestly being put in small little cups on a shelf. But there was people there listeing to me and after this guy explained to everyone he was a trained employee, and that he was capable of giving sound advice to everyone, i laughed and explained that he was full of crap and that the fish were all in bad shape. I made a pledge I wont buy anything from walmart in the fish department. Specially if i want happy healthy fish.

I think there should be some sort of manditory certification and bi-annual inspection for any business which sells any livestock. And if they are being inspected on a time basis then quality control and a knowledgable board and staff are not being employed.

The walmart where I live also has terrible conditions.

usually the walmarts around here have less than favorable conditions also....but...i went into a newly remodeled walmart yesterday, and went and looked in the fish department just out of boredom....no dead fish in any of the tanks....tanks were cleaned...not overstocked...i about had a heart attack and died right there on walmarts floor. haha!
