Walmart plants???

I hate to tell you, but most of the stuff used in aquariums is the same stuff you can by at a garden store. For an example, I will used polished rocks from walmart. In the pet setion you can get a little tiny back for like 2-3 bucks. If you go back to the floral department you can get a bag of the same rocks for $1. Oh and you get 2.2 pounds vs. about 1 pound. Yep that is why I asked about the plants. There are all kind of things out there marked for aquarium use that just cost more money. Since I have a breeding pair and am getting two more pairs tonight, I will be doing water changes about every day. Any thing that might come off the plants that might be harmful should be ballanced by the water changes. Thanks again to all.

I would also be worried if the glue was water safe or not. Even supposing the toxins aren't there or removed by the water changes, it doesn't mean the glue won't dissolve and cause the flowers to come apart anyways.

i dont want to be off topic but i just have to give a shout-out and AGREE!
take note if you havn't checked out your local plant/garden store in a while...oh esp. if they have a pond section...

Usually the mark up is because the materials used are a higher grade and safer in the aquarium than other stuff, but hey, it's your fish to risk it with.

i dont think they bother using better ingredients. most glues are fine once cured. ive used all sorts of superglues, silicones and epoxy from home depot and all my fish are fine, i just make sure to not get any with added chemicals. i mean tank manufacters just get the regular stuff in the big caulking tubes not little 5 dollar tubes marked fish safe.

ive used silk plants too. all come from the same plae there isnt a special factory that makes fish only silk plants.

im huge with diy and almost everything i use is home made, from places like home pedot or converted to aquarium use from other stuff.

back to topic im not sure how much help plants will be in an angelfish tank since slate or a pot are typical spawning mediums and they are usually pretty good parents so hiding places arent really needed.

Oh I did not by any plants from walmart with flowers. They are just big lefted green plants. Oh and I agree about the local garden stores. You can get rocks for cichlid(spelling?) tanks at most landscaping places. Just boiling the rocks and what not and they should be fine. Why pay the pet store $3 a flipping pound?... After you spend a number of years in the fish hobby, you start to learn the tricks of the trade. Thanks again.

The rock thing is a biggie, i saw a stupid rock at the lfs here the other day, it was 14.00. lol. For one rock ! I can buy the same thing at me local landscape place for 15 cents a pound. for 14.00 i can buy about 20 of them. Lava rock is great for cichlids and you can buy it at the landscape places for dirt cheap. The nice thing about lava rock is that you can use a hole saw on it and make beautiful tunnels.
