Walmart rescue cory

Almost all the Walmart's here in the chicago area sell fish and it disgusts me. Petco's are no better as neither store knows how to properly care for for fish. We have a local petco that has over 35 little Betta cups and they all just sit at the bottom and exist until death free's them. The Walmart near my home goes through guppies & cory's like skittles and not from sales. I don't think any store should be able to stock/sell fish without having properly trained people to take care of them, but we as humans tend to think that all other forms of life other than ours is insignificant and if a fish dies oh well it's just a fish. Sounds like a rant or is one but better training would definately make the hobby much better.

Just an update, my tiny walmart albino cory is doing great, its tail grew back and I transfered him/her to my 12 gal tank to be with two other albino cories. My other albinos are huge, looks like bigger than 2 inches. They doubled in size in 2 months! I think I need bigger tank;)

I work at Wal-Mart. I'm over the pets department. I carry live fish. Fish loss is part of the retail cycle. Go to ANY fish store and they will tell you that not every fish that comes in will go out to a happy home. It's a part of retail. /shrug
That being said, I educated myself as best I could ON MY OWN TIME about basic fish care. I'm not a fish specialist nor do I claim to be. I try to educate customers as best I can about fish care but unfortunately they'll do as they **** well please. I invite anyone into my department to view my tanks. Not ashamed of them at all.

Good for you FastFly :thm: I used to do all the fish related work that was needed on 3rd shift at my walmart as well, until they stopped selling them after our remodel. Was good for me though because I got 2 of the 3 sections of tanks along with the complete plumbing, filtration and even the tap water filter for $120. Then when they couldn't ship the store supplies out to another store I got them all for free  It is a fact of retail that some fish are always going to die and as much as its up to the quality of their care in the store, part of the fault goes to the distributor that will do things like put figure 8's into a fresh water tank for example. Just because we might be a walmart associate doesn't mean we have no fish knowledge or care about them. :headbang2::headbang2::headbang2:
