Wanna go saltwater, what do i need??

....is it hard to move an established tank??? like say i move cross country how would that work?

To move a tank of that size, 125 gallons, it could be a real challenge. Not that you COULDN'T do it but you have to think, you need to have all of your livestock placed into something with enough room and then you have to maintain the temperature at a reasonable level and probably good to have some water flow if it is a long trip.

You will probably have some sort of die off from something, especially if you have corals and then you have to keep your live rock at LEAST wet but preferably submerged and then, again, you will have some die off.

Sorry if it's discouraging but you need to know what you are getting into and have the patience and willingness to take your time and do it right.

I think it will be great! Not to add a downer but I would plan on easily going over $5000 as a minimum. It is amazing how there is always just one more thing. I converted a 46 and probably spent $4,000 - I only have easy corals and a 3 fish.

Building it into a wall would be sweet. Sleeping under it would be cool, but scary at the same time.

A reef tank in a headboard would be a maintenance nightmare.. Back away slowly from that horrible plan..

haha awesome guys thanks for all the responses you making me realize that i dont think im ready for a saltwater tank just yet!! sounds like way to much money for me and way to much maintence, especially way to much money!!

but im still going to build the headboard/aquarium......i plan on it being like two bookshelves framing the bed then some shelves in bewtween them, then on top a huuuuuge aquarium that'll ill custom build out of plywood if i cant find a reasonable deal on a used one. maybe ill just stick with freshwater and make it a massive cichlid tank....that would be AWESOME.....i could house so many awesome fish in a tank that size cus i plan on it being at least 125 gallons if not more. im also going to build a frame to go under the bed that will have shelves and whatnot and then a diy sump that will be under the tank but level with the bed so it will be hidden.....do you get what i mean??? so i can just slide my bed forward and then the sump will be there.

its a big project and willl probably take me all summer to make it professional but i will DEFINANTLY make a good long thread following it DONT WORRY

re-evaluate the wood work. Ply is not going to withstand spills and the weight.

Choose better wood. Oak,Birch, ..etc hard solid quality wood. You are going to need something to withstand the weight. Not just water weight..but the live rock and sand.

Also I dont think I could put up with the sounds from the tank in my sleep ...or the smell of skimmate ...ugh... To achieve virtual silence on that is going to be one huge pain in the butt.

I believe you are going to spend more on this crazy idea than just setting up a stand alone tank with sump housing...Good luck if you got the time and money.

Yeah the money part keeps everyone from trying,but i'm gonna set up my first salt(10g)
