Want big fish for a 75g,Which?

Looking for something about the size of a Redbreast Bream or Crappie. I had a Gold Severum and liked it alot. Had personality and I saw one grown and it was a nice size. Those, esp. the greens, are on my maybe list. She was a bully at times esp. when feeding a worm cube but settled done after more fish was added. As far as temperment goes, something not overly aggressive like a J. Dempsy. Had some Geo. Jurupari's that were interesting and were docile. Maybe something in between that would go with a pair of Grn. Severums or GP's. I'd also like to stay on my current 20% water change every 2 wks. and not have to do that every other day or so.
How would a Salvini fit into my wants? The wife loves the yellow color.

A salvini pair would work nicely.

I have heard that they get to 12 inches but I have never seen one bigger that 8 in an aquarium.

They can be quite fiesty. Mine was insane but that seems to be a rarity. Most of the people I know with them say that they are tough but not murderers like mine was.

I am breeding severums in my 77 gallon right now. Love that fish.
They share it with a motley crew of cichlids. (rainbow, chocolate, texas, few plecos and target/dither fish) The others seem to make the severums breed even more.

My water change regiment on that tank is 50% every three weeks. I do however have a massive amount of filtration on it. 1 eheim 2028, 1 aquaclear 500 and one powerhead 802 with a modified filter basket.

How about a pair of Salvinis and a pair of Severums? Maybe a dither or 2 if needed. That I'd like if they'd work out. I had a pair of Firemouths once but took them back after a few months because every time you'd get close to the tank they'd go hide. They were to shy for me or could it have just been those 2 particular fish? Love their color but not the hiding.

salvinii are *extremely* aggressive fish. a breeding pair of them and a breeding pair of severums would more than likely end up with just a pair of salvinii.

i would stick with in the Thoricthys genus. the firemouths et all. they can be extremely attractive and while typically aggresive are not as psychotic as salvinii.

this (thoricthys aureus) is my favorite of the genus..

I want a few so bad

i believe they are close to the size of a crappie too.

Would a pair of Firemouths rather than Salvini's and a pair of Severums work instead? I'm not so much interested in breeding as I am just having a pair. If they breed they breed and if not so much the better. What if I throwed in a single Green Terror with the above pairs and nothing else in the tank? How would it shake out?

I'm down to these choices

You mix and match the best that would go together:

2- Severums (personality)
2- Firemouths (color)
2-Salvinis (color)
1- Geo. Jurupari (personality & cleaning)
?- Tiger Barbs ( How many ? )

Those are the ones I want as "center pieces" with the Barbs as dither and fun entertainment. Why I like them are in ( ). I'd like to have the Barbs, GP and 2 pairs of the others. Would they all fit when full grown snd temperment? I've had the tank full of odds-n-end little fish and now I want a nice tank with a few larger fish.
What are your suggestions?

that tank would be perfect if you dont put in the salvinii!

they are EXTREMELY aggresive and will give the others a very very hard time if they dont outright kill them.

with out the salvinii i think that would be an awesome tank.
