I have a 29 gallon tank, going well for 2.5 months. Right now I have 3 opline gouramis, 4 zebras, a small eel (possibly tiretrack, not sure) a young swordtail, and a small pleco. I want to add more fish. I'm going to get a pictus cat. I want the tank colors to be more of silver/blue colors. I was thinking about silver dollars, but I guess they get pretty big. I also want an african butterfly, but my petstore quit carrying them  Any ideas what to add? Maybe a small angelfish?

3 opalines is a little much for a 29 IMO because they'll become aggressive with each other (I'm guessing you have very young/small ones. So I would get rid of 2 of them, and add some blue platies instead.

The pleco shouldn't be in there if it's a common one. If it is a common, I'd get rid of that too and look for a bulldog pleco (aka rubberlip). Or a group of ottos and/or amano shrimp.

I would get rid of the eel too, mainly because they would eat the shrimp, and it will need a very large aquarium when full grown, about 100g+.

Silver dollars also get too large for this tank, but you can squeeze a pair of pictus cats in there (and it is kind of a squeeze ;) ).

You might be able to find some tetras or guppies that are silverish blue.

I would increase the size of your zebra danio school. Don't get a pictus as they will outgrow that 29...IMO 2 pictus is extremely pushing it. Also, the pictus will start snacking on your danios eventually. I agree with Kasakato, maybe get some blue platies...they have some nice varieties out there. If your eel is a tiretrack then you're looking at a fish that could grow about 2 feet...if you can, trade him in for something else...same with 2 of your gouramis...they will start showing signs of aggression to each other sooner or later.
Does your store have Silver Hatchet fish..those would possibly work in your tank. How about loaches for the bottom of your tank instead of the eel. Try looking up Lohachata Botia Loach. It's scientific name is Botia lohachata. You could do a small school of summynose tetras as well.

as for african butterfly, i had to order mine from www.****************
great fish, but they might eat your danios and possibly your sword depending on size.

i would reduce your gouramis to 1 and think about finding a new home for your eel.

pictus cats will eventually outgrow the tank and also, they will hunt your danios.

I got my fish at petsmart. That's all thats within 100 miles, since they put out the other (in my opinion better) petstore. I tried to trade in some agressive fish I got there before, they wouldn't take them back. So I highly doubt they would take any of the others. I don't want to flush anything either. Also, I don't know anyone with a tank right now. I used to have a few more zebra for a couple years in a 10 gal before my 29, they were pretty old so a few have died. I wanted a semi- agressive, but it sounds like I would need a larger tank. Any ideas what to do (finding new homes)? (and cheapest way, I'm broke. Can't have a larger tank either, out of room)

Well, if you don't want to euthanise (sp?), all you have is a petsmart within 100 miles, no friends with tanks, can't upgrade, don't want to spend money (meaning no shipping), hmmm.......................ah, put up some homemade signs around town advertising the fish you're trying to sell/get rid of.

If you live in a small town, the chances that someone else has a large enough aquarium is very very slim (Petsmart rarely sells tanks over 40-50g's). But if someone does have a large enough tank, the chances that they'll want to pay for your fish, is almost non existant.

If nobody answers to the adds, there's only two options:

1) Cull the fish you don't want/shouldn't have
or
2) Just keep them, and eventually you'll have a lone eel that has eaten everything else in the tank.

I know it's tough to get rid of fish you don't want (I'm going through the same thing right now). I wish you luck and hope my idea helps ;) .
