Wanting Redtailed Shark

I've been leaning toward getting a redtail shark for my community tank. I talked to my lfs about the aggression I was worried about, and they said it shouldn't be too much of a problem. As long as I add a hiding place for it, the other fish shouldn't be bothered. They also said that they'd only be worried about another of its species or a fish that looks like it. So it sounds good, but I'd like to hear any experience/ advice from anyone who owns or has owned them. Thanx~ Angela
 
I originally had my red tailed black in with just a female beta and a little tunnel with a fake plant and you would hardly ever see him as a majority of the time he would hide in the tunnel but since putting him in to a tank with lots of plants and a few angels hes grown bold and lost a lot of his shy behavour and 9 times out of 10 hes swimming all over the place as he now feels alot more secure. so if your gonna get 1 make sure you have a few plants i have a mixture of real and fake in mine and they seem to work well.

Yeah, I have a decent amount, but I'm still waiting for them to fill up my tank. I'm reading up on what to do about faster growth, though I have mostly slow growers. I'm using Mydor's 'Green and Grow' to fertilize the water column, as I don't have any rooted plants other than the anubias.
 
It's true that red-tailed sharks will only be aggressive toward their own kind. It should be okay if you have only one and there are hiding places.
 
Agreed should only keep one. They are very aggressive toward's each other know from experience.
 
shark question

i have a rainbow shark and he bullies my two angels and six neons so i would watch for agressive behavior.

Isn't rainbow shark different redtailed shark? :confused:
 
Rainbows are slightly different then red-tailed sharks but both hold true for the same behavior patterns. And you cannot put Rainbow sharks and red-tailed's together.
