How do most people go about washing sand without losing gangloads of it through the holes in the bucket?

I put it in a 5 gallon bucket. Kept the water flowing and kept my hand stirring in the bucket to get the cloudiness out. I did lose some sand, but not much.

I havnt bought any yet, but I am leaning towards the prewashed white play sand, although I know it will still need to be washed it should be less than regular sand. When you are using the bucket method do you just let the silt and dirty water flow over the top.

yeah, let the small nasty stuff and scum flow over. I personally used pool filter sand so my grains are a little bigger so play sand may flow over a little, but not enough to panic. Like the other poster said just fill it half or one third full with the sand.
