Would you all agree that it would be a waste to dose ferts in a tank with only Amazon Swords and no C02 ? Would you think just root tabs is the way to go with or without c02 ? :feedback:

It's been a long time since I've done planted tanks seriously, but I'd say I would agree with you about just root tabs, considering that they are heavy root feeders to begin with. I'm assuming you don't have a ton of light over the tank, right?
I can't give you a definite answer, but I can say that when I started using root tabs in my Amazon Sword only tank I noticed a most dramatic increase in growth and coloration. I had already been dosing liquid ferts for a couple of weeks prior. I'm not sure if the liquid fert was formulated properly for swords or if the effect was from the both of them tandem, but I do know that they worked.
I'm excited to see what others have to say about this subject!
I saw a thread about a week back that was written by Tom Barr saying that he had "sqeaked by" using nothing but liquid ferts in all his tanks for many years. I'd like to think that he's wrong but his results speak volumes. They are beautiful!

72 gal ,330 watt 10,000k vho. I have been using liquid ferts with the root tabs and excel for about a year and just thought I would stop the liquid and go root tabs only. Also thought to add co2 and quit the excel . Maybe Tom B will chime in and add a little info or any thoughts on the subject.
I'm in the process of removing the emperor's and going with the 2 magnum 350's only .
The chain sword is gone ,this pic is from a while back. The magnums have bio media in them now.
This is the tank I maintain at where I work so it doesn't get the attention like my home tanks.

Some osmocoat or Jobes under the roots might work well for you, and Excel or CO2 gas.
That would make the plants grow really well, other wise, things look fine.
Simple, and fairly easier to add those 2 things(root fert and CO2)

Have you used osmocote before? Do you know which version is best to use?
Is it likely to cause algae problems if it gets disturbed?
