I believe I have heard that you do 20% every 2 weeks. I read somewhere not too long ago (can't remember where) that if you add a refugium, skimmer, etc that this can go to once a month in a FOWLR tanks. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks!

IMO water change size and frequency on marine tanks can be highly variable, depending on size of the tank, filtration, water parameters, stocking etc. I do 10% weekly changes on a 20g with a skimmer, because its a small tank its not too much hassle. Like you said water changes can be decreased with better filtration (skimmer, refugium etc). I think on larger tanks a normal water change is around 5% a week or 20% once a month.

It really depends what is happening to my tanks.. If I see something strange going on I have a tendency to do a larger water change but my normal change is about 10 to 15 gallons.
