Water Change Nozzle lower temp and increase O2

Because the city water here is so hot in summer cold 90F I have been trying to find ways to minimize the temp increase and at the same time increase O2 levels which drop about 3 PPM as most tap water softened or not is low in O2. For today's water change it suddenly occurred to me that if I could create a fountain like they do on ponds and man made lakes to cool and oxygenate water it might work for my aquarium as well. So today instead of the usual python hose pouring in water, I attached a garden sprayer and locked it in the wide spray pattern position. The end result was instead of the usual 7F degree increase in temp, the increase was only 3 degrees. Also O2 levels only dropped by 1 PPM instead of the usual 3 PPM. Anyway for those that live in the high desert here is something to consider.

Great idea! lol

Great idea! lol

Thanks. It doesn't take much longer then just pouring in, I think it may help outgass some chemicals before they hit the water. The only problem I learned is you have to secure it or you have a water wiggle you have to chase down and wipe up after lol.

For the past few years I've been putting my new water in a 30g trash can, then into the tanks/pond.

I get to use a little warm water to get mine to 79*F though.

With what your doing. You could put a small fan blowing in the tank, at the new water comming in. And maybe have no rise in temp?
A little breeze on water, has a big effect on the temp.

I have an old pump (gph? 300/500?) that I run while filling.
Then use the old, smaller pump hooked up the hose/plactic tubing to fill the pond(next to it) or 5g bucket to haul around the house.

Great idea! I also have a large 45 gal trash can I use if I have an emergency drain/refill that is needed and was almost going to start using it the nigh before water changes to cool, aerate, and ougass new water. but I realized it would take more then 1 day to do all 3 tanks so I came up with this spray alternative which works well (aerate and cooling measured) and still allows me to complete water changes for all 3 tanks in 1 day.
