Water Change Procedure

I have a 75 Gal. freshwater planted tank with Discus, changing aproximately 20% of the the water weekly. I recently purchased a 26 gallon "plastic spot sprayer tank" that I fill with tap water. I treat this tank water with API Tap Water Conditioner and with a submersible heater, increase the temperature to that of the aquarium tank (82 to 84 degrees). This process allows me to quickly refill, using a submersible pump the aquarium, without I believe, stressing the fish. I would be interested in any comments pro or con as to this procedure. Maybe there is somthing I am missing? (Tank is from U.S. Plastics)

nope but with discus the more water change the better. i would be doing bi weekly water changes or more personally. more so if they are juvies. i am setting up a 240 gallon and will have it set up to do 75% water change bi weekly or more.

Aging water is almost a requiremnt if you don't have good tap water to start with. My suggestion is for you to check with the condition of your tap water first. You may not even need to age it. The two big concern is PH swing and chlorine.

I do as much as 80% WC on some of my tanks and I use straight from the tap water. My PH is stable and the only thing I put in the water is seachem prime or safe.

You may want to add an airstone to the aging tank as well.

If your tab water is good, there is no need for aging water. Simply use a Python.

I drain 10 gallons of my 135 gallon tank into 2 5 gallon homer buckets. Dump it, put a capful of water conditioner/stresscoat into each bucket, fill the buckets with tap water after "feeling" it for a close enough temp. Let it sit 10 minutes and dump it in.

I haven't lost a single fish in almost a year and have only lost 1 fish the whole time I've had the tank.

I use a 50 gallon Rubbermaid industrial trash can. Has a 200 watt stealth heater, and a demand pump. Its piped directly to my 125 gal tank.

refilling is as easy as opening a valve.

I have put a small mark on my tank, 1 inch of tank is abut 5 gallons of water (on my tank) so 6" down from the top is about 30 gallons... I do a 30 gal WC at least 3 times a week...
