Water Change Volume, and Temp Measurement

I use a thermometer with a probe (similar to a meat thermometer) to get the temp correct and change between 40-60% on every tank at least once weekly.

i check temp by hand, erring on the side of slightly cooler water rather than warmer.

usually 30-50% depending on tank size. i don't have a set schedule, but i have started a water change/tank notebook to keep track of things. maybe it'll be 6 days, maybe it'll be 10.

i use a python, and when it's refilling, i hold a hand in front of the output.. makes it VERY easy to tell if the water temp is different.

I feel the water myself, I don't use a thermometer. I use to, I used a aquarium thermometer back then...as far as WC go, I have several tanks and do them all different really. My 55's I do about a 30% each week, my 150 I do about 20% twice a week, or if I miss one I do about a 40%, my smaller tanks (10-14g), I do a 20% weekly.

I do a 50% on all about once a month unless there is a problem in the readings of my test, then I do a 50% at that time.

I change atleast 30% in my tanks weekly.....

As for checking temp during changes I use an extra digital thermometer to first check the tank I am doing a WC on then I take that reading and match it to the water I am adding with my Python. I figure by using the same thermometer to check both the tank and the water at the faucet I can assure I get the temp pretty close..

I change between 50% to 80% weekly on most tanks, fry tanks anywhere from daily to twice weekly. I use the most godawful cheap $1.99 thermometers, they are often off by a few degrees. As long as the tank temp & what is coming out of the hose are within a degree or two, it's all good.

I do have one good lab grade mercury thermometer, I scratch the temperature difference on the back of the cheapies, which are pretty much scattered around the fishroom. They all have +3, -4 & such scratched on the back.

I have a 50' hose running from my utility sink in the laundry room, under doors & through walls to the fishroom, a second goes to a 32 gallon can with a large pump for draining. There's a Y adapter with valves on the sink, one goes to the fishroom, another goes to a few feet of hose, which I use to set the temperature. Some day, probably when I plumb in the bathroom down there, I'll run pipe up & over to the fishroom.

PWCs once a week, hand temp method,35% then 50% the next week alternating. Not sure why just do ;) I'm cool like that!
