water changes causing floating betta???

Maybe some shrimp or snails? The snails would be good, especially if you have anything that would eat them. If they are small enough, the betta might even enjoy the occasional snail-snack!

Snails in the hex tank when I get them or in the what will then be empty 1 gallon set up?? I think the snails are really neat and have thought about adding them to my 40 gallon tetra tank..but it would be really cool to put them in with the little betta's in the 5 gallon hex. What type of snails?

I think I will definately get the betta's new tanks tomorrow. Will they need to cycle prior to putting the betta's in them?? Or could I add the betta's after it is set up and monitor all the levels? I don't approve of fishy cycle's at all but I would think it would be difficult to fully cycle a tank that small.

Thanks all again.

Well, Ted is doing better tonight. He is no longer floating on his side and is swimming more "normal" not quite right yet, but better.
Thank you all so much for the help. I will be going to get them a better environment to live in then their one gallon tank. Geesh...is there something that could be done about the risk of putting these guys in those tanks?? The tanks I bought were what I researched and decided would be best for them. Grrr!! I know any idiot can start a website and put out false information...I guess I just need to do TONS more research than I did before making these decisions.
Thank you again!

I meant the snails or shrimp for the 1g, but there is no reason you can't put them in all of your tanks if you like them. If you are not overfeeding, they are not supposed to multiply into the millions, maybe we could say that is a good indication of a problem?!!? You could run the 1g filter on the tank for a while, along with whatever comes with the new tank, assuming it doesn't seem to bother the fish. He should be fine with a little extra for a couple of weeks. Or, if you can, incorporate whatever filter media ( and the gravel too! ) from the 1g into the 5g, with just the one fish, that should be enough to keep the tank cycled.
