Water changes in hot climate

*My* 55 gallon tank is at 80. Not OP's. I guess an option that *may* be viable is to use an ATO. Since that, you know, automatically tops off, you just fill it, and it refills the tank as needed. That at least allows the water to be at ambient temp instead of whatever's coming straight out of the tap. That would work for the capacity of the ATO, at least, which may not be as much as you do for a water change. Or a lower tech version of that is to have some receptacle that you can store treated water in the day before the water change, so it's at ambient.

So, roughly 30% increased temp 4 degrees for me. I'd not worry too much, since it looks like many African cichlids are good in the 76-82 range.

Haha, sorry, I can be scatterbrained at time. OP, what temp does your tank settle at during the day, if you know? If it's over 85 you should probably increase aeration and think up a way to cool it down besides that. An open-top tank would, I think, cool off faster then a sealed one (due to evaporation) so that could be a start..

A fan blowing across the top of the tank can help increase evaporation, and therefore, cooling.
