water changes with sand

My personal opinion.. Is forget sand if it is a breeding tank.. Just go with whats easier to vacuum.. You have to do it anyway. And if it's a breeder tank chances are you are taking care of it and it's state So i'd just go with gravel if it were me.. much easier to celan in my personal opion.. Though play sand is heavy and would prbably be about the same..

i used sand for a while and loved it. The sand can look dirty sometimes but it doesn't take much to bring *all* of the waste off of the surface of the sand to make it look good again. Spin something around in the aquarium and the waste will float for a second, then suck it up with a syphon system or let your filter take care of it.

I remember seeing a modification to the python system that would let you syphon a sand bed while sucking up detritus without bringing up any sand. This was almost two years ago, I wouldn't even know where to begin to look to find it for you.

my fish loved the sand, especially my corys.

and with an emperor400 I would lose sand over time... had to replenish it every 6 months or so. It can also hurt impellers on some of the systems over time but not enough to matter a whole lot.

I just used playsand i picked up from walmart, used it for more than a year before going to flourite.

thanks guys. i was really thinkin about using sand, but i guess i will have to find another place for it. im just going to move my cons to the 20g i just got and have them breed in there. need fry to feed bigger fish!! :p:
