Water Chemestry Mardel 5 in 1 test strips

Yes, I agree, your numbers seem fine. Maybe a little high on the KH/GH for true wild Discus but probably perfect for the breeder raised Discus you are likely to buy. And should have enough buffering capacity that PH will be stable. And I beleive 6.8 is about the "ideal" PH for them as well, although I am admittedly not a discus guy. Ph is not as big a deal anyway.

Do some reading on Discus here if you want to raise them. From what I understand they like soft slightly acid water. That would be close to what your water is, close enough that you would not need to worry about it in my opinion. Do some more research and make your own mind up but I don't think you need to do anything other than stay on a good maintenance program.

gah... sorry about the discus. dangit, prober.... it's all your fault... ;)

either way... my other points still stand.

I never knew you needed to know about your gravel I just bought a bag of it at the store. Ive done this for 40 years and never had a problem. Thanks for all your help.

if it's "aquarium gravel" it's probably inert. there are so many legit choices and folks come up with the craziest ideas sometime, so it's best to check.

either way, i still see no immediate issues, but if you wanted to adjust ONLY kh... matching your target in your w/c water during maintenance and acclimating would be the way to go as baking soda is the only thing i know readily available to do so.

iirc, 1/2 tsp gives you an extra 5dkh in 5 gals of water. there are calculators out there anyway, so nothing crucial.
