i hear ya jag, i bought one and by the time it came in my green water was clearing up on its own.... sittin there in its little box laughing at my checkbook grrrrr

hey Jag come to think of it.. I had dwarf crays in the tank when i used accu-clear and both were fine.
Large water changes will only clear the water for the first few hours after filling, after that it will slowly get worse and worse and worse. What you have to do is completely get rid of the gw spores.
As i told you in the pm, up your filtration to a canister filter. Pack it with filter floss. Add accu-clear as suggested on bottle and wait 6-8hrs. After that replace the filterfloss (will be clogged with thick green slime) and let the tank run for the night. The following morning do a 60-75% water change and add accuclear again. After 8hrs check filterfloss again and replace it (dont just rinse it. replace fully).. following morning do another big water change. Replace all media in the filter (wash filters as well), pack it with w/e media you plan to use and see how the tank goes.
For me accu-clear with addition of fluval404 helped alot.

^^^ while doing all that also reduce your photoperiod to 5-6hrs

Petsmart sells some cheap units, 9watt - $29 and a 24watt - $49-59. And those units dont require a pump, they sit internally like a heater and have their own pump.

As for the fluval, most people replace it with reinforced 5/8" ID tubing from Home depot or Lowes, so they can plumb in accessories such as heaters or inline reactors.

I'd just get the cheap $25 9w UV unit from Petsmart instead of putting chemicals in my tank.

That price is only for the Replacement bulb.
