Water Conditioner? Which one and WHY?????

The only thing I wonder about the wardley chlor out is that it doesn't say anything about neutralizing ammonia which would be given off when the chloramine is neutralized. Now if you don't have chloramine that wouldn't be an issue of course.

I have been a Stress Coat user for years. I guess that was the first one I used WAAY back when. I belive my LFS suggested it and now it has stuck. I have 3 FW tanks totaling 243 gallons. I buy Stress Coat by the gallon now-a-days.

Prime, all the way.

With Prime, you have to add the amount for the volume of water in the tank all the time..Say if you have a 50 gallon tank and you changed only about 25% of the water, you would still have to add the amount for 50 gallons..I was told that Prime, the directions state, you have to add the amount for the volume of the tank..

I use Amquel/Novaaqua, I believe their policy is that you can add the amount of conditioner for the water you put in and not the total volume of the tank..

So the price comparsions, well adjust if you look at it this way..

For prime that is only if you add water straight to the tank.

DIRECTIONS: Use 1 capful (5 mL) for each 200 L (50 gallons*) of new water. For smaller doses, please note each cap thread is approx. 1 mL). This dose removes approximately 0.6 mg/L ammonia, 3 mg/L chloramine, or 4 mg/L chlorine. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. Sulfur odor is normal. For exceptionally high chloramine concentrations, a double dose may be used safely. To detoxify nitrite in an emergency, up to 5 times normal dose may be used. If temperature is > 30 °C (86 °F) and chlorine or ammonia levels are low, use a half dose.
